Lajos Kassák took on a range of artistic guises: writer, poet, theorist, critic, editor, movement leader and - last but not least - painter and typographer. Géza Aczél, an outstanding poet and the compiler of the evening's programme, will provide us with an insight into Kassák's incredibly rich artistic career through an in-depth retrospective of his poetry. As well as excerpts from some of Kassák's essential works of the avant-garde, this selection will also include some long-forgotten texts, demonstrating and confirming how Kassák's entire body of work including the hugely influential journal he founded and edited - was in total accord with the era in which he lived. Despite an autodidactic bent, Aczél speaks with expert authority on music, theatre, architecture, cinema, advertising and photography. While his accomplishments and artistic activities were of a universal nature, there is a reason that Géza Aczél will draw mainly from Kassák's poetry: while Kassák is primarily known outside of Hungary for his painting, the poetry he left us with is deserving of its own special recognition.
