It is safe to say that the audience for this Endre Ady show can look forward to a unique experience and an exceptional musical event, featuring a cult underground group formed at the start of the 1980s.
On the Hungarian cultural scene, such an authentic encounter and interaction between classical and contemporary art is a rare event, a unique occasion. Mihály Víg selects the poems and sets them to music, and his profound empathy and original sound resonate with the world of one of the most influential poets in Hungarian literature. Víg does more than simply interpret the selected poetry; he reconceptualises it, placing it within a modern context. Internationally, Víg is best known for writing the music to the films of the Hungarian director Béla Tarr. This evening, however, the audience will have the chance to bear witness to an extraordinary moment in his artistic career. The Balaton group's husky, resigned, melancholy sound will place classic and less well-known pieces from Ady's poetry in an utterly new and original light, as they make the lyrical, mercilessly critical and (self-)lacerating verses, saturated with patriotic anger, a part of their own repertoire. The one-hour concert will feature poems such as E nagy tivornyán, A halottak élén, Az utolsó hajók, Üdvözlet a győzőnek, A meghívott Halál, A föltámadás szomorúsága, A Duna vallomása, a Nekünk Mohács kell, and A Halál-tó fölött - it promises to be an unforgettable evening.
