Featuring:

“The happiest I ever saw Attila was when we sent him to Béla Bartók to collect an article that he wrote for us about machine music,” Ferenc Fejtő once recalled of the poet. “When he came back, it was clear there was something he really wanted to say, so I asked him, “What’s up, Attila? What are you so happy about?’ He replied: ‘Imagine, Béla Bartók told me that I am to Hungarian poetry what he is to music. I could not have been paid a more beautiful or greater compliment.’” Attila József’s relentless lines are suited to Bartók’s music that regularly transcends the boundaries of classical harmony. The relationship between the two of them really comes through when Bartók’s dissonance beats out the steps of the lonely soul towards the land of happiness, understanding and love in time with the verse of Attila József. They are brothers in art. The programme put together by Imola Korhecz and Tamás Érdi explores the lost harmony in verse and music through the work of Attila József and Bartók.
