At the opening performance of the fairy tale concert series, music, storytelling and instrument demonstrations blend together seamlessly. In The Old Fisherman and His Ambitious Wife, the Talamba Percussion Group brings this classic tale to life with the help of five percussionists and a narrator. Thanks to the golden fish, the modest fisherman repeatedly fulfils his wife’s ever more outlandish wishes. As her desires drift ever further from reality, the sea grows darker. The rhythm, tension and humour of the story combine beautifully with the rich, colourful world of percussion instruments. Along the way, the audience has the chance to get to know the instruments up close, turning the concert into a playful introduction to the realm of sounds and rhythms. The experience is enhanced by colourful illustrations to create a vivid, visually stimulating musical fairy tale that unfolds before our very eyes – a story about moderation, and what truly remains when we accumulate too much of everything.
