Once upon a time there was a king with eight fiddlers, a wise cat named Joachim and a happy realm reverberating with music. Nothing brought him greater pleasure than the enjoyment of music. When financial worries compelled him to dismiss his musicians, a great sadness fell upon the land. Luckily, Joachim had an idea about how to bring back the music, and happiness with it …
The community of teachers, parents and children of the Aladár Tóth Music School has produced a children’s opera entitled The Cat, based on the story The King, the Cat and the Fiddle by Yehudi Menuhin and Christopher Hope. The première of the opera is the realisation of a dream long cherished by those with an unshakeable belief in the eternal truth of Menuhin’s story: without the arts, we cannot find happiness and fulfilment in our existence.
