Featuring:
Is it possible to draw a hard and fast line between pop and classical music? Although they are generally separated, if we take a closer look, there are many points of connection between them. Let us not forget that all composers wrote for the audiences of their time, and it was always important for their works to meet with the approval of listeners. From the age of Viennese Classicism and on to the Romantic period, the audience immediately embraced their favourite movements, humming along to them, and demanding transcriptions for other instruments. The most popular works persisted for centuries and inspired the various directions pop culture would later take. Outside of the concert hall, we can now expect to encounter them in the most unexpected places: Eine kleine Nachtmusik while on hold with the bank, Für Elise when the gate buzzer sounds, the Badinerie as someone’s ring tone, and the Ode to Joy in place of shrill school bells. The possibilities are boundless.
