Polgár Chess Festival
29 September 2013 Sunday
8 am - 5 pm
Blue Hall, Foyer, Glass Hall, Auditorium, Atrium

Over recent years, the Polgár Chess Festival has grown into a prestigious charity event in which everyone enjoyed by participants of every kind, from familiar personalities, sportspeople, artists, scientists, businesspeople and politicians, to chess fans and – above all – children. Last year, the festival took on an international aspect, as Judit Polgár played simultaneously with children from the 27 member states of the European Union in an initiative supported by the European Parliament-sponsored “Chess in Schools” programme. Patron of the event was Androulla Vassiliou, the European commissioner responsible for education, culture, multilingualism, youth and sport. Among the goals of the event is to strengthen the cause of chess education in schools within society as supported by the European Parliament. The Chess Palace Programme strives to help develop the abilities of students through numerous complementary methods, among them rhymes, songs and riddles, and many exciting games such as chess castle, chess dominoes, chess money, chess cards and chess dice. Chess puppets, enormously appealing characters based on historical facts and anecdotes, are also brought to life at the Chess Palace. By making this emotional connection, children gladly take the world of the Chess Palace with them into their social and family life outside the classroom. For this occasion, Müpa’s regular Sunday family programme entitled Palace of Delights will be tied in with the Chess Festival: the kings and queens of fairytales will travel to Chessland with the children, who collect chess tokens by successfully completing various tasks at a series of stations. These tokens can then be exchanged for valuable prizes. Entry is free. Presented by: Judit Polgar Chess Foundation for Educational Benefits
