The Seasons, Hob. XXI:3 – oratorio (excerpts)
Spring, summer, autumn, winter – in his epochal oratorio Haydn transformed the eternal cycle into musical notes. There to assist the youngsters in the audience in deciphering the secrets of the individual melodies and motifs, as well as in giving the holiday its proper place in the midst of everyday life, will be some first-rate helpers. These include the Concentus Musicus Wien orchestra, the Hungarian Radio Choir, and of course the brilliant soloists: Rita Rácz, Zoltán Megyesi and Miklós Sebestyén. In addition to wielding the baton, conductor Ádám Fischer will also share his own commentary, infused with his usual directness and humour. This programme will recharge, relax and inspire everyone before returning to the daily routine of the new year.
