Great things happened in the court of Mannheim around the middle of the 18th century. The orchestra functioning here at the time was directed by the Czech-born composer Johann Stamitz, who introduced a series of innovations in the work of the orchestra related to both technique and composition. These innovations were soon reflected in the early works of the great masters of the Classical period, Mozart and Haydn. We can thus safely say that Mannheim was the cradle of symphonic music, and t...hat the influence of the Mannheim school was definitive in the formation of the Viennese Classical style. Our concert aims to present this relatively little-known episode in music history.
