Some representatives of Hungarian folk music prefer to keep to conventional formats, while others also look for inspiration in contemporary genres, thus breathing new life into their own musical traditions. The members of the Góbé Band, formed in 2007, combined the musical traditions of Transylvania with the customs of the Voivodina region, and drew influence from the genres of jazz and rock. Their music sets out from the time-honoured folk music of the Carpathian Basin, before freely mixing in elements of jazz, blues, country and classical music. They aim to popularise folk music in new forms certain to be enjoyable for everyone.
