Blind since birth, pianist Tamás Érdi overcomes difficulties in learning works of music which seem insurmountable to the sighted, breaking them down note for note with the aid of his teacher. "For me, it's important that we should live in an accepting society, where those who cannot see do not feel handicapped,” Érdi said in one interview. "It's merely a condition, such as having blue eyes or brown hair. In such an idyllic world, children's inner values would prevail and society would accept children living with disabilities - because every instrument in an orchestra is equally important!” An artist who believes in the importance of playing music together and presenting classical music to children and young people in an authentic context, Érdi now presents the struggles of Béla Bartók, both as a person and one of the greatest composers of the last century, in the company of his musical friends from the Academy of Music. He looks at why Bartók was compelled to leave his homeland, and why his talent was not recognised for so long - nor the value of his art, with an inherent Hungarian character and patriotism conveyed through the brilliance of his works, rather than through high-sounding but empty slogans.
