Featuring:
In this performance, the instruments selected from the extremely rich array of Hungarian folk instruments will be of the wind variety. Wind instruments are played by blowing through the nozzle of the instrument in question. This is also true for the modern tárogató, also known as the Schunda tárogató, after its creator, József Schunda. While the reed of this instrument is similar to that of a clarinet, the body is shaped like an oboe and it has a conical bore. Its upper register bears a trumpet-like, metallic sound, while its upper register produces a soft, lamenting sound. At this concert, in addition to wind instruments, the audience will also encounter such accompanying delights as the cimbalom, the gardon, and the tapan.
