Featuring:
The koboz is an instrument that takes on a variety of forms across the region. Known by the Moldovan Csángó people today as the cobza, this close relative of the lute is plucked and has a short neck and rounded back, which gives it the shape of a pear cut in half. The tambura also belongs to the lute family and has a small body and long neck. The neck and head of the instrument familiar today is generally carved from a single piece of sycamore or fruit tree. Later tamburas have a fretboard and tuning mechanism similar to a guitar. (paraphrased from Bálint Sárosi)
