"Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way...” In the festive season, both children and adults alike find themselves unwittingly humming the tune as Christmas draws near. But what happens if, as a member of the audience, you are handed some well-tuned, heavenly-sounding bells? You can find out on this unique occasion: under the guidance of Ethnosound's professionally trained and well-prepared team, you will have the chance to see that there is perhaps only one greater experience than listening to music: making it yourself.

The ringing, tinkling sound of these little instruments has long been an essential part of the inimitable Christmas atmosphere of almost every Hungarian family. Though in concert they are usually only heard in a ‘supporting role', bells still tend to produce a truly ethereal effect on the listener. Initially, you might think that the sound will be the same whichever one you happen to be shaking, but that's not the case at all. Bells can be tuned, they produce sounds of varying pitches, and every single one has its own face, its own personality. Károly Fehér and Ethnosound's accomplished team have set out to introduce younger people to special or well-known instruments from around the world and demonstrate how they work. Of course, they have other ambitions too: in their interactive and engaging concerts, everyone has the chance to experience the uplifting feeling of playing music, often as a member of an impromptu band formed for the occasion. Every audience member will receive a colourful and well-tuned bell at the start of the concert - all they have to do is make sure they play their own instrument at the right time. From this simple rhythmic game, together we are able to perform some well-known and much-loved melodies. Because in the lead-up to Christmas, the silver bells must ring out!
