This performance series is geared toward youngsters - and those who never grew up - who like music, but don't understand it, or who understand it, but don't like it, as well as those who both understand it and like it, but sense that a single melody conceals countless mysteries. It is also intended for those who wish to get a peek into how movement is created within and to music. The event will also appeal to those who spent their childhoods taking apart everything they could get their hands on or who loved Lego above all else and still like to sit down with smaller children to play. Anyone who doesn't think of continents when they hear the word "discovery”, or who has always felt drawn to the world of the theatre, or who never understood what is so great about all this ‘drama' will also feel at home! This is an old-fashioned, leisurely exploration of opera, of characters singing at length in joy and/or gratitude, and we promise that no melody, musical accompaniment, character or scene will remain undeconstructed and unrebuilt, "Opera Hoopla” style!
The wealthy and eccentric old bachelor Don Pasquale is pacing back and forth impatiently as he awaits Dr Malatesta. The "remedy” his physician is bringing is no ordinary medicine, but a bride! This is the image that opens Donizetti's 61st(!) opera, and the work never lets up from then on: one of the most entertaining comic operas in the musical literature unfolds like a whirlwind. As with other instalments of the Opera Hoopla series, this is no traditional opera performance: instead, an artist well-versed in the world of opera and the theatre will be introducing us to the mysteries of the genre, with illuminating commentary and analysis of the situations. Conductor and composer Dániel Dinyés and director Pál Göttinger strive to help listeners decipher Donizetti's thinking both aurally and visually: how his mind reacted to a given situation or gesture in a new libretto, how he adapted the music to it with the right melodies to breathe life into the characters and how the story would come alive on the stage.
