Day of Poetry at the Palace of Arts
Interactive performance for children
11 April 2013 Thursday
9 am - 11 am
Festival Theatre

An all-day themed series of events to appeal to all ages takes place on the Hungarian Day of Poetry, creating a new tradition by offering a forum for poetry and poets within a framework that provides both a quality cultural experience and great entertainment. Kids can take part in busy interactive programmes in the morning, while the evening will witness a review of the local poetry scene unprecedented in Hungary. Between the two, drama students will recite both classic and contemporary verse at “poetry points” set up at all corners of the building, publishers will offer volumes of poetry at discount prices, and popular contemporary poets will meet readers for informal chats. A “free welcome verse” from the drama students awaits the audience arriving for the evening review, at which every generation and tendency in Hungarian contemporary poetry will be represented in a large-scale, multi-disciplinary showcase of the arts. The famed oldest generation and living legends of Hungarian lyrical poetry – names such as Sándor Csoóri, Ferenc Juhász, Sándor Kányádi, László Lator and József Tornai – will appear as never before on the same stage as the most popular twenty-something stars of today’s poetry slams. What is more, they will be joined by some of the leading interpreters of Hungarian poetry.
