Young, younger, the youngest: the members of perpētuum are hardly senior citizens, which is perhaps why they are able to effortlessly make a connection with an audience that is not far from their own age. At the Boundary Pushers event, the audience members will help the band raise and respond to the kind of questions that should be on every musician's mind. What makes a musical genre? Who classifies a particular song as a particular style? And most importantly of all: why is it good and also necessary to push the boundaries?
Though Perpētuum's performers arrived on the concert stage through jazz, their fans are well aware that the group is always testing the boundaries: in addition to jazz, they have also built their increasingly rich repertoire on pop, metal and electronic music. Perpētuum say they play alternative pop, which means in part that they do not decide the genre and style in advance - instead, they are determined by the mood and what the band wants to say. They admit and submit, a concert or album is capable of depicting the diversity of the world that surrounds us - from jazz ballads to thrashing metal, there is room for many things in each inimitable perpētuum show. Guitarist Dániel Takács, bassist Áron Sárosi and Attila Telek on drums will join the singer Fruzsina Girincsi. Not for one moment do they stop testing their own limits, and the results are plain to see. In addition to the Audience Prize at the Müpa Jazz Showcase, they have also made a name for themselves among judges and audiences at a wide range of festivals and popular clubs in recent years. Now, at the Boundary Pushers show, the students will help the band provide an account of the latest trends in pop, tell us how a new group begins through their own story, and also explain where their inspiration comes from.
