The Innermost Room (or tisztaszoba, literally, ‘clean room’) is an ornately furnished room in provincial homes, which is kept clean at all times and is reserved primarily for the reception of valued guests. In the Székesfehérvár Ballet Theatre’s dance theatrical production, this room with a special status in the house is a metaphor or symbol, denoting a ‘place’ where we keep the treasured secrets of our soul. It is an archive of memories, thoughts, feelings, kept deep in our consciousness and brought back to life and given shape by some cathartic event. A lot of things happen in ‘the innermost room’ – a person’s soul – which the ballet represents as a fabric of dreamlike scenes. The atmosphere relies essentially on the music, in which Félix Lajkó clads the rich folk tradition in a new guise.

Sponsored by: The premiere is presented by Müpa Budapest as a joint event with the Székesfehérvár Ballet Theatre as part of the Bartók Spring.
