SABORES - Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras
22 April 2007, Sunday
5 pm - 8 pm
Festival Theatre

The 80-minute SABORES (meaning savours) offers a colourful cavalcade of flamenco feelings, music and dances. We do not witness a concrete story, but receive an insight to the varied and emotion-full world of flamenco, where dance styles of different characters follow each other at an increasing pace. The six-piece orchestra (two guitars, violin, wind instruments, and vocals) perform the music of José Carlos Gomez and Jossé Carlos Bandera. The ballet consists of nine dancers, who perform their solos one after the other. Flamenco traditions come to life and build up into a whole during the night. Dances of two guest artists, José Serrano and Luis Ortega, enrich the program of Sara Baras’s ensemble. The stage scenery is minimal: the wardrobe symbolises contemporary flamenco and accentuates the noble simplicity of the dancers, giving great emphasis to the changes of colours and lighting, which follow the music. Sabores premiered in Paris, December 2005. The show closes the trilogy of narratives that started with Sensaciones. The motto of the series is freedom, which serves as a guideline to the new approach towards flamenco. Sabores started out on a tour in 2006, touching Barcelona (Festival del Milenio), London (Sadler's Wells), Moscow (Kremlin Palace Theater), St Petersburg (Grand Concert Hall Oktiabriskyi), Jerez (Festival Flamenco), Santander (Palacio de Festivales), Vitoria (Teatro Principal), Viladecans and Cordoba. A program by the National Dance Theatre; a part of the ’Dance Forum No 7 – In Tribute to the International Dance Day’ program series.
