staged by OKIDOK, Louis Spagna

Clowns and underpants – these are the two thoughts upon which this production by the Belgian duo of OKIDOK, otherwise known as Xavier Bouvier and Benoit Devos, is founded. The programme, which has delighted the world for over a decade, begins with the flashing of what appear to be warning lights, so prepare for something huge, something unusual and something arresting… the underpants are ready for take-off! A skinny bespectacled fellow and a short stocky gentleman arrive on stage clad in nothing but underpants and aviator caps. The gags may appear to be standard fare at first, yet we get the unmistakable feeling that it is our accepted myths and favoured fashions that are being mocked at every turn. The two ungainly figures in underwear flex their non-existant muscles as they hold up a distorted mirror to the macho ideals of our time. Albert and Baudoin compete to see who can perform the greatest number of press‐ups, the most beautiful dance routine and the most devastating kung fu move. Their every gesture is laden with comedy: With no words, no props and no soundtrack, they are nonetheless able to coax belly laughs from their delighted audience.

The performance is recommended for those aged 14 and over.
