The first editions of the Living Martin Archive series follow the route followed by the tireless ethnographic researcher György Martin (1932-1983) in filming his dance documentaries, thereby paying tribute to the life's work of this wonderful scholar. Martin and his colleagues organised a highly significant series of trips to collect dances in Hungary and Transylvania, which would play a prominent role in the history of both Hungarian and European folk dance research. With this show, the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble aims to express its gratitude to the makers of the films from Bonchida and Türe and all those who took part: the Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy performers (dancers and musicians) who preserved and passed on these wonderful dance and musical traditions.
