Birth and death. This is what the amazing German theatre company's production, Infinita is about. Originally founded by fresh graduates of the Folkwang-Hochschule, Essen, the company now comprises artists from several countries, actors, dancers, pantomimers, mask makers, puppeteers and musicians. FAMILIE FLÖZ soon found its own performing style, which they often call, for the sake of simplicity, mute theatre.
Textless but brimming with humour, poetic qualities and virtuosity, their productions attain a complexity, or even philosophical profundity, thanks to the use of strong visuality, movement and music.
The actors wear grotesque and caricatural, often surrealistic, bizarre or frightening masks, which allow them to represent anything from infants to very old men. Infinita is also shockingly original in that its infants can portray the old, and the sorrow of the old can incorporate the dream-world of children.
