Hungarian Festival Ballet – Bolero / Afternoon of a Faun / Jeux
(For those 12 and above)
18 February 2010 Thursday
6 pm - 8 pm
Festival Theatre

Iván Markó’s „French evening” derives its music from two Debussy works and one by Ravel. The 1985 choreography for Bolero¸ which was composed in 1928, is now regarded as a modern classic. Faun, composed in 1894, was first staged by Nijinsky in 1912, and it was so successful was Nijinsky commissioned Jeux that same year. He choreographed this in 1913. In 2009 Iván Markó prepared his own “reading” of these two works, which are both a tribute to the Russian genius of ballet and also a debate with him. The music links all three works and the central themes of the original choreography: desire, eroticism, human relationships
