Hungarian Dance Academy: Before Graduation
Programme by graduating dance students
22 June 2018, Friday
5 pm - 7:30 pm
Festival Theatre

Ballet lives! In addition to excerpts from classics and renowned 20th century Hungarian choreographers, the programme includes a work by contemporary choreographer Ohad Naharin. Alongside Swan Lake and excerpts from Satanella, the audience will enjoy a selection of dances from László Seregi's ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream and a work by Antal Fodor set to Bach's Violin Concerto on E major.

In nine years of professional training at the Hungarian Dance Academy, students are taught the age-old traditions of classical ballet. At the same time, they are also prepared to interpret the works of contemporary choreographers. This is reflected in an examination programme that extends from choreographies by Bournonville, Petipa and Ivanov through works by Seregi and Fodor to the modern day. Although the curriculum is shared, in time role types are established, so that everyone has the opportunity to present themselves in the styles and roles that suit them best at the graduation performance. The graduating students have by now developed into young artists meriting attention from both the Hungarian and international audience, as well as from leaders of dance ensembles from all over the world. Over the years, the Hungarian students have been joined by dancers from Finland, Japan and Italy. Following this performance of the examination programme, this year's graduates will go their separate ways be welcomed onto stages around the world.
