Music: W. A. Mozart Sets: Zsolt Khell Costume: Krisztina Berzsenyi Lighting: József Pető Dramaturgy: Tamara Török Performed by the Yvette Bozsik Company and the dancers of the Central-European Dance Theatre Joint performance by the National Dance Theatre and the Yvette Bozsik Company Mozart composed his marvellous musical fairy story, The Magic Flute in the last year of his life. This genre of singspiel was well known in Germany at the time and Mozart found it a suitable vehicle for a cautionary tale filled with folk and philosophical wisdom, underlined with his fantastic music. His old friend and fellow freemason, Emanuel Schikaneder wanted to give his own suburban theatre a boost with a popular “chamber piece”, and asked Mozart to write something. Schikaneder provided the libretto and the end result was premi?red in 1791 on September 30th, with Mozart conducting. The opera was performed many times in the ensuing months to growing acclaim. The Magic Flute is about the battle of darkness and evil with the ideals of beauty, goodness and wisdom. This dance piece will be a modern stage arrangement of the opera, employing a German expressionist film style, presenting the story of the opera, its playfulness, profundity and mystique.
