The Bihari Ensemble was founded under the leadership of Ferenc Novák in 1954. In more than half a century of operation, the collective has won major prizes and garnered prestigious accolades at numerous Hungarian and international festivals, among them outstanding grades at festivals run by the György Martin Folk Dance Association, as well as the Mihály Csokonai Vitéz Community Award in 2005 and the Prima Primissima Prize in 2012. The ensemble takes a structured approach to fostering young talent, with the vast majority of young artists introduced to its traditions through a basic grounding in the arts. As a result, the ‘Bihari' community now numbers more than 200 people. The ensemble is an open workshop where the creations of many choreographers are brought to life through performance. Several generations of choreographers have graced its practice rooms over the decades.
