J. S. Bach
Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 (Xavér Varnus arrangement for organ and piano)
Bossi
Concerto in A minor for organ and orchestra, op. 100
Xavér Varnus has appeared regularly at Müpa ever since the organ of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall was inaugurated. He has appeared with the greatest figures in Hungarian cultural life, including the Nation's Actress Mari Törőcsik and the Vojvodina violin virtuoso Félix Lajkó. He has also previously fought friendly organ-piano duels here with legendary French jazz icon Jacques Loussier. His concert this year is with Misi Boros, a discovery of the Virtuózok TV talent show, and the 50-year-old Szolnok Symphony Orchestra. They will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Chicone in D minor, originally composed for solo violin, followed by Enrico Bossi's concerto for organ and orchestra written in 1890. This latter piece was performed by the world-famous Italian organ virtuoso himself at the inauguration of the Academy of Music in Budapest, and was described by Verdi as "The most magnificent organ concerto ever written.”
