The Met's new production

Conducting one of the most performed pieces in the history of opera, Yannick Nézet-Séguin is a discovery of the Metropolitan Opera's newly-appointed musical director, the legendary Carlo Maria Giulini. As is typical of Met productions, an integral part of this performance will be its rich scenery - the same Michael Mayer who set Rigoletto in 1960s Las Vegas places this piece in its original environment with the use of lavish scenery and stage design. In addition to the director, the production also benefits from lighting, set and costume designers that have been recognised by prestigious theatre awards. And of course, the artists that take the spotlight are absolutely first class.
Among the brilliant cast members is the title role of Violetta, hopelessly devoted to the beauty of life but suffering from a terminal disease, played by one of the Met's most popular prima donnas, Diana Damrau. Her partner Juan Diego Flórez also returns after an absence of five years. Quinn Kelsey, considered one of America's greatest baritone voices from his Verdi roles, will bring to life Alfredo's father Giorgio Germont, who sabotages the dreams of the two lovers to protect his family's reputation.

The 'Metropolitan Opera Live in HD” transmissions have been made possible through the cooperation of our partner, Cikánek Management.
