Le bourgeois gentilhomme – suite, Op. 60-IIIa

R. Strauss

Ariadne auf Naxos, Op. 60

It is traditional for the BFO to kick off each season with a new opera production. This time around we can look forward to Ariadne auf Naxos, composed by the experimentally inclined Richard Strauss to a libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal and staged by the team of Iván Fischer and the outstanding actress and commedia dell'arte specialist Chiara D'Anna, with internationally renowned singers serving as the soloists. The main part of the opera was originally preceded by Molière’s play Le bourgeois gentilhomme, with incidental music by Strauss, but owing to the length this entailed, the creators themselves later changed it to an operatic prologue. In this production, a suite compiled from that incidental music will introduce the work prior to the intermission. The original version – in an audience-friendly guise.

A joint production by the BFO, Müpa Budapest and the Iván Fischer Opera Company, Vicenza Opera Festival and Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi.
