J. S. Bach
Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit (Actus tragicus), BWV 106
J. C. Bach
Meine Freundin, du bist schön
What could elevate the jubilee concert series higher than a performance of two Bach works by the Purcell Choir and Orfeo Orchestra - naturally under the guidance of György Vashegyi? Johann Sebastian Bach's Actus tragicus, one of his earliest cantatas, is a well-known work. Although the cantata based on the Song of Solomon is the most popular work by the "great” Bach's relative Johann Christoph Bach, its performance still ranks as a curiosity. The historically authentic performance of both familiar and almost forgotten music is a mission György Vashegyi never forgets for a single moment.
