Prokofiev
Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 16
Bruckner
Symphony No. 9 in D minor, WAB 109
Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 is his most difficult work in the genre, posing a tremendous challenge for the soloist both technically and mentally. Ever since Beethoven, every composer writing a ninth symphony has set out to infuse it with their finest skill. And Bruckner, who composed with great care and much thought, made a particular effort to ensure the greatness of his. If we were to ask the two composers themselves which piano concerto and which symphony they would recommend from their respective oeuvres, there would probably be no question about it: they too would choose these.
