J. N. Wendt’s contemporary transcription in an arrangement by the ensemble The moment that Mozart finished an opera, someone else would turn it into a so-called harmonie for wind octet, essentially a self contained piece presenting a snap shot of the work but without singers. The New Harmony Wind Ensemble have undertaken to make their own adaptation of a contemporary arrangement of Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio, restoring the vocal parts and performing the orchestral accompaniment them...selves. The motivation for this work is their collaboration with Turkish artists. This opera has a Turkish theme and the ensemble has performed the work in the seraglio of the basha’s garden in Istanbul, the real-life setting for the work. It was also made possible because Mozart scored the opera for a small ensemble involving fewer singers than even The Magic Flute. The performance can be managed without a conductor, and will be led by the principal clarinet for this concert hall premiere.
