Jephtha, HWV 70 – oratorio

One of the most exciting and multi-faceted singers of our time, Michael Spyres, a (bari)tenor able to scale unparalleled highs, is finally making his debut in Budapest. The singer known for triumphantly portraying the lead roles in the operas of Mozart, Verdi and Wagner will perform the extremely exacting solo by the main protagnist of Handel’s final oratorio, Jephtha. The other star of the night is the world-famous mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. An old friend of Müpa Budapest, she has appeared here many times over the years not only on screen as the star of numerous Metropolitan Opera broadcasts, but has also enchanted the audience in person with her individually themed concerts (Drama Queens, War and Peace, and Eden). These extraordinary American singers will be joined on stage by the likes of Mélissa Petit, Cody Quattlebaum and Jasmin White, not to mention an early music ensemble that always delivers an experience to remember, Il Pomo d’Oro, conducted by Francesco Corti.
