The Budapest Festival Orchestra and Müpa Budapest created a new tradition in 2008 with their annual marathon, an event which has since become a red-letter day for music lovers, where everyone can wallow in works by their favourite composer at their leisure. Each year, the marathon attracts close to 10 000 people, with a substantial proportion of the audience made up of those enthusiasts who sit through every single concert in the programme. Following Tchaikovsky, Bach, Beethoven, Bartók, Mozart, Schubert, Dvořák and Stravinsky, it is the turn of both Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann to star in the marathon in 2016.
