The Met's new production

The Met concludes its series of transmissions for the 2017/18 season with an opera rarity: although Massanet is well known for his Manon and Werther, this will be the New York opera house's first staging of his operatic version of the fairy-tale Cinderella. The production was premièred at the Royal Opera House in 2011 with some of the same cast and team: Laurent Pelly's storybook-like production will again be in the hands of Bertrand de Billy, who also conducted the London DVD recording, with leading Met mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato returning to the title role. After her appearance in the London première, the New York Times described her voice as "glorious” and her performance as "thoroughly enchanting”. "Prince Charming” is being brought to life by a world-renowned specialist in trouser roles: British mezzo-soprano Alice Coote. Taking the stage as the fairy whose voice hits stratospheric heights with ease is coloratura soprano Kathleen Kim. Also closely connected to the Metropolitan Opera, Stephanie Blythe has sung there in every season since 1995, and not just in any role - this time she will be portraying Cendrillon's stepmother. Playing the part of Pandolfe will be Laurent Naouri, a superb master and dedicated interpreter of the French opera repertoire.

The 'Metropolitan Opera Live in HD” transmissions have been made possible through the cooperation of our partner, Cikánek Management.
