To mark the 70th anniversary of the death of Miklós Radnóti and the Holocaust Memorial Year, two outstanding actors, Pál Mácsai and Andrea Fullajtár, have created an extraordinarily exciting evening in collaboration with a trio of unusually talented musicians: saxophonist and composer László Dés, supremely gifted cimbalom player Miklós Lukács, and one of the most admired percussionists of the young generation of jazz musicians, András Dés. This is not a literary evening in the traditional sense, but a production featuring a unique dialogue of verse, prose and music, made special through the blurring of lines between the arts and the distinctive, inimitable performance styles of the appearing artists. The musical improvisations continuously reflect on the ideas expressed in prose and verse, creating an unusually stimulating conversation between poetry and music. Besides Miklós Radnóti’s poems, diary extracts and contemporary documents, the evening also features verse and other writings by his contemporaries – all of which are connected to Radnóti’s life, works and time, but which also carry a message relevant to today.
This captivating and harrowing selection of works has been assembled by leading Radnóti expert Győző Ferencz, whose knowledge of the poet’s oeuvre is second to none, while the performance directed by Mácsai will be characterised by the performers’ unusually sensitive and charismatic interpretation. A powerful, intense and unforgettable evening is assured.
