Hunyadi is the first true masterpiece of Hungarian national opera. Director Csaba Káel says „László Hunyadi is our story. The English are proud of their own history and royal dramas as written by Shakespeare and we must constantly tell our own because these dramas give us a glimpse of our own origins. Ferenc Erkel’s masterpiece is a tragedy full of twists and psychological situations, the conflicts of which are described by the labyrinth of power from which together with our compatriots we are seeking the exit.”
