The Met: Live in HD at Müpa Budapest

This story begins with a newborn baby found abandoned on a battlefield by the famous French 21st Regiment. The regiment lovingly raises the girl, who with time becomes a lovely maiden and lives as a canteen-keeper among the soldiers, and must choose from among them a future husband. But then, a rich relative appears and whisks Marie away to his palace, thus beginning this classic comedy.
The outstanding South African Pretty Yende, who debuted at the Met in 2013, brings an abundance of acrobatic vocals to the virtuosic role of Marie, while Javier Camarena takes the stage as the young Tyrolean. The name of the Mexican tenor is associated with a memorable feat: in the history of the Met, he is only the third to have sung an encore on the stage. Maurizio Muraro, who is peerless in buffo roles, plays Sergeant Sulpice, while the role of the Marquise of Berkenfield is taken by Stephanie Blythe, who is blessed with a breathtaking voice and has worked consistently in the Metropolitan for more than two decades.
Conducting the performance is one of the outstanding friends and cultivators of the bel canto repertoire Enrique Mazzola. Director Laurent Pelly also oversaw the legendary production of the piece featuring Natalie Dessay at the Royal Opera House in London.

The 'Metropolitan Opera Live in HD” transmissions have been made possible through the cooperation of our partner, Cikánek Management.
