Piano Concerto No. 2 in B major, op. 19

It is no exaggeration to state that this evening will be unique even for those who regularly attend classical music concerts in Budapest. Taking the podium at this concert by Concerto Budapest will be the Kremerata Baltica ensemble, which has been playing for the nearly two decades since it was founded by violinist Gidon Kremer. The orchestra will be joined by someone who has been a major figure in musical life around the world for close to half a century: Argentine pianist Martha Argerich, who was already showcasing her extraordinary talent with Mozart's and Beethoven's piano concertos at the tender age of nine and ten. At the start of her career, her main focus was on solo engagements, but – preferring the pleasure of making music together with others over 'lonely success' – she later found herself increasingly drawn to playing in the inspiring companionship of an orchestra or of chamber music partners.
The programme features Mendelssohn's four-movement String Symphony No. 7, Alexander Raskatov's 2001 work based on Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, which was premiered by Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica in that same year, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2.
