Serenade after Plato's Symposium for violin, strings, harp and percussion

2018 will be the tenth year that the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Müpa Budapest are jointly organising an all-day marathon - lasting from morning until late in the evening - of the best work from a single composer. The year also marks the centenary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein, the American composer, conductor and pianist who was also one of the key figures in promoting classical music. In addition to playing his most popular works, outstanding Hungarian performers and ensembles will also be interpreting ones - some lyrical, others dynamic or with a strong dance or jazz component - by his compatriots George Gershwin, Scott Joplin, Steve Reich, John Cage, Elliot Cole, Red Norvo, Samuel Barber, Stephen Foster, Charles Ives, Harold Meltzer, John Harbison, Ned Rorem and William Bolcom.

Artistic director of the series: Iván Fischer.

Presented by: Budapest Festival Orchestra, Müpa Budapest

Budapest Strings (artistic director: Károly Botvay)
