Anne-Sophie Mutter and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
28 May 2010 Friday
5:30 pm - 8 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Featuring Anne-Sophie Mutter - violine

Conductor: Manfred Honeck Featuring Anne-Sophie Mutter – violin Brahms: Violin Concerto in D major, op. 77 Mahler: Symphony no. 1 in D major („Titan”) One of the greatest stars in the violin world comes to the Palace of Arts along with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Anne-Sophie Mutter has not played in Hungary before. It is hard to account for why because three decades have passed since her debut as a teenager at the Lucerne Festival. The next year she played at the Salzburg Pentecost Festival with Herbert von Karajan. She is equally at home with contemporary music as she is with Baroque, the Viennese classics or romantic music and one of the highlights of her repertoire is the Brahms violin concerto which she plays this evening. The Philadelphia Orchestra performs Mahler’s affirmative first symphony. It became a world leading ensemble when led by Hungarian Fritz Reiner and since then, its sound has been shaped by André Previn and Lorin Maazel.
