Dvořák

The Golden Spinning Wheel – symphonic poem, Op. 109

interval

Mahler

Symphony No. 4 in G major

One of Europe’s most illustrious symphonic ensembles (it was founded in 1781 and can boast such figures as Felix Mendelssohn, Wilhelm Furtwängler and Bruno Walter among its past music directors), the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra has taken the stage at Müpa Budapest three times so far: in 2012 with Riccardo Chailly, in 2017 with Herbert Blomstedt, and in 2022 under the baton of their current leader, Andris Nelsons, who will be returning to helm them this time as well. The first part of the concert consists of Dvořák’s rarely played symphonic poem The Golden Spinning Wheel, followed in the second by Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, featuring the excellent young German soprano Nikola Hillebrand.
