Wesendonck-Lieder

Founded in 1872, making it one of the first associations of its kind, the Hungarian Richard Wagner Society is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its existence in 2022. On the eve of the series of festive events planned for 2022, Atala Schöck, a key mezzo-soprano at the Budapest Wagner Days festival, will take the stage at an Advent concert being presented jointly by Müpa Budapest and the Richard Wagner Society.

In the first part of the concert, the audience will get acquainted with songs by significant but now almost forgotten Hungarian composers of the Late Romantic and fin de siècle periods (Károly Aggházy, János Végh and Ödön Mihalovich), in which Atala Schöck will partner with the young pianist/music historian Ferenc János Szabó, whose work includes researching audio recordings and opera performances from the early 20th century.
The Richard Wagner Society has also paid special attention to the personality, career and works of Franz Liszt from the very beginning. This is why the second part of the evening will feature Ilona Prunyi, a pianist who has been known for her outstanding virtuosity and natural musicality in the Hungarian music scene over more than fifty years of performing concerts, playing the timeless music of Liszt. To crown this Advent concert, Schöck and Prunyi will interpret Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder together.
Receiving invitations to this private event, in addition to members of the Wagner Society, were Gold and Platinum cardholders of the Müpa+ membership programme.
Gábor Zoboki, The president of the Richard Wagner Society, and Krisztina Hudomel, its executive chairman, will both deliver greetings.
