Miklós Szenthelyi has undertaken the unique challenge of performing four concerts and nine pieces of music in a single day, selecting his favourite works from an extensive repertoire built up over decades. Szenthelyi graduated from the Budapest Academy of Music under Dénes Kovács in 1973 and was appointed as an apprentice teacher in the same year. He won the Leó Weiner Sonata Competition together with András Schiff, and finished first in the Hungarian Radio Violin Competition in 1975. By 1988, ...he was appearing all over the world from Australia to Brazil, including ten visits to the United States, where he gave more than 150 concerts. Szenthelyi has also released ten solo and orchestral recordings, including all of Bach's sonatas and partitas for solo violin in 2002, recorded during a single concert in Budapest's Saint Stephen's Basilica. Since 1988, he has mostly performed with the Hungarian Virtuosos chamber orchestra – of which he is artistic director, violin soloist and, since 1999, conductor – at home and abroad on three continents. He appears on the recordings as a soloist. A professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy in Budapest, Szenthelyi has also published Sarasate's sheet music in Hungary and has held masterclasses at the Greensboro Festival, in Finland and in Brazil. His work has been recognised with the 1986 Liszt Award, the 1990 MSZOSZ award, the Cross of Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary in 1994, a Vilmos Tátrai Memorial Ring in 2000, and the Kossuth Prize in 2008. Talented and award-winning young violinists from his classes have included József Lendvay and Kristóf Baráti. Miklós Szenthelyi plays a 1723 G. Guarneri violin received from the Hungarian State.
