New Orleans Swingfestival

25-27 August 2017

Each year the New Orleans Swingfestival manages to serve up new and innovative performances and 2017, which incidentally marks the 12th year the festival brings lovers of this still widely popular genre to Müpa Budapest, is no different. The scintillating rhythms of the final, fun-filled evenings of the summer season are again guaranteed by outstanding musicians.

This year the Kozma Orsi Quartet kicks off proceedings with an exquisite performance. Woody Allen is a favourite of many, but relatively few people know that the director’s true passion is jazz, and that he himself plays clarinet in New York on a weekly basis. Besides numerous other things, his fanatical love of music is illustrated by the fact that his name was inspired by his favourite clarinet player, Woody Herman. The 4-member group is joined on stage by actor András Kern (who has lent his voice to many a Hungarian version of Woody Allen movies), exploring the relationship of Woody and swing. The night after, the Gyárfás István Trió promises to bring fun and happiness to all ears when they perform pieces from their most recent CD, playing swing interpretations of well-known Hungarian cartoon hits, from Dr. Bubó through Frakk to Kukori és Kotkoda. The third night sees the 12-piece No BS! Brass Band from Richmond, Virginia dive headfirst into the modern depths of brass jazz
