Jazz Spring
5-7 May 2016
We can enjoy three outstanding concerts during the three-day festival whose kaleidoscopic features and cheerful freshness is in full harmony with the mood of spring and the spirit of jazz. On two evenings we are treated to leading performers in today’s American jazz, topped with a unique figure of the Swedish jazz scene who will also enter the stage of Müpa Budapest.
José James is an unmistakable representative of contemporary New York jazz, his gigs are magical mixtures of individual style, suggestive performance, jazz, soul and drum’n’bass. Viktoria Tolstoy is a true, natural talent; a Swedish jazz singer who is proud of her Russian ancestors and who can sense the spirit of the different jazz genres with unbelievable safety. She and her quartet will not only be choosing selections from her latest, highly successful album; they'll be giving the audience a broader cross-section of her work to date. One of the world’s most successful a cappella group, the legendary Manhattan Transfer was founded back in 1969, and they are still thriving – with new members of course. Alongside jazz pieces the four magnificent singers regularly perform pop hits and R’n’B style songs, too.
When spring comes along, Müpa Budapest will be the centre of the Hungarian jazz scene for three days: three gigs, three different styles and great new experiences awaiting the fans of jazz.
