Jazz Spring
Vocal Encounters
7-9 May 2015
Freedom is the soul of jazz; there are thousands of equally attractive ways of musical expression, with new potentials added to the list time and time again. Jazz Spring intends to stay true to the spirit of jazz even in this sense, by showcasing a completely different stylistic trend on each of the three nights of the concert series. Lisa Simone’s songs offer a mixture of jazz, gospel, pop and Caribbean rhythms, but the singer has not betrayed the legacy of her legendary mother, Nina Simone either. As a charismatic soul singer, the British artist Natalie Williams – who is no stranger to Budapest – navigates between various styles with an impressive ease, while the New York Voices vocal ensemble, in turn, awes audiences in every corner of the world with its meticulously elaborated, polyphonic singing. In short, the concerts of this year’s Jazz Spring are different in nearly all respects, except one: each visiting artist is a world-class performer.
