More guests with wheelchairs can enjoy Staff Benda Bilili's performance

Special guests will be visiting the Palace of Arts on 6th May: the musicians of Staff Benda Bilili, a group of homeless people and people with disabilities from Congo, are bringing pure joy of life and music to Budapest. The Palace of Arts receives at its shows 10 guests who use a wheelchair, but this time around 30-40 spectators with disabilities will have the opportunity to enjoy the concert so that they can see the band that recorded its first release in the zoo of Kinshasa under the open sky.

Chinese and Belgian awards for the Budapest Festival Orchestra

As announced at a press conference in Beijing, the Budapest Festival Orchestra has been awarded the Classical Elite Award for 'Best Symphonic Concerts of the Year' for their appearances in the Chinese capital in October 2010.

Iván Fischer may win the Oscar of conductors

The Music Director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra is one of the nominees for the 2011 Conductor Award of the British Royal Philharmonic Society. With Semyon Bychkov and Esa-Pekka Salonen, Iván Fischer was selected from among the conductors of the most successful concerts performed in the United Kingdom last year.

Sergei Nakariakov live online

The next Müpa Live Webcast will present the second evening of “International Stars with the Ferenc Liszt Chamber Orchestra”, a joint series of the Palace of Arts and the Ferenc Liszt Chamber Orchestra.  On 16 April 2011 Sergei Nakariakov, dubbed “the Paganini of the trumpet” and “the Caruso of the trumpet”, makes an appearance at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall.

Waltraud Meier to Receive the Lotte Lehmann Memorial Ring

Preserving Value In A Changing World – New General Manager At The Helm of the Palace of Arts

Imre Kiss, general manager of the Palace of Arts requested to be relieved of his position on account of his deteriorated health. His term as General Manager ended on March 16, 2011. In the future, he will assist the work of the Palace of Arts’ management in cooperation with his successor, as Senior Advisor to the General Manager from March 17, 2011. The new management will be able to fully rely on his guidance, know-how and professional experience, as well as his domestic and international network of professional contacts.

Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic (civilian division) Presented to Imre Kiss

On 14 March 2011, in honour of Hungary’s national holiday, the Kossuth and Széchenyi prizes as well as the highest ranking Orders of Merit of the Hungarian Republic were awarded by President Pál Schmitt and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the House of Parliament. Among those honoured was Imre Kiss, Director of the Palace of Arts, who was presented with the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic (civilian division) in recognition of his work as the institution’s director, contributing to displaying and passing on countless artistic values.

Honours and State Awards on the Occasion of the National Holiday

This year, once again, prestigious honours were bestowed upon prominent figures from the cultural scene on the occasion of the national holiday of 15 March. Recipients include numerous artists who have recently appeared on stage at the Palace of Arts or will do so in the near future, or are otherwise professionally associated with the institution. The European Anthem sounded on the organ of the Palace of Arts

Christoph Guyard, composer for the Council of Europe, has used a digital collection - a product developed by Hungary’s Inspired Acoustics - containing the sounds of the organ of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall to record the Council’s anthem. The transcription of the tune of The Ode to Joy for orchestra, piano and organ has reached all relevant media across the globe, and therefore millions of people can hear the work of the French composer and the organ of the Palace of Arts in news reports about the Council of Europe.
