Iván Fischer may win the Oscar of conductors

2011. April 14.

The Music Director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra is one of the nominees for the 2011 Conductor Award of the British Royal Philharmonic Society. With Semyon Bychkov and Esa-Pekka Salonen, Iván Fischer was selected from among the conductors of the most successful concerts performed in the United Kingdom last year.

Founded in 1813, the Royal Philharmonic Society presents the award in 13 categories each year; it is the highest recognition for classical music in the UK, comparable in significance to the Oscars or the Grammy awards. Operating in the United States since the 1980s and still featuring two Hungarian members, Takács Quartet is also on this year’s shortlist.
The award will be presented to winners in each category on 10 May at the ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
