The Bartók Spring has barely drawn to a close and we already have new discoveries to look forward to: the first events of the Liszt Festival have now been made public.

Among the unique events of the festival will be the screening of Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s 1926 version of Faust, which will be transformed into a 21st century cinematic experience in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall by Müpa Budapest’s resident organist László Fassang.

Organised jointly by Müpa Budapest and the Akvárium Club, Isolation Budapest brings together leading international names in the underground music scene, such as Jordan Rakei, Yellow Days, Hinds, Okay Kaya, Jeshi and Martin Luke Brown. Among the most notable figures in Afrobeat, ADÉDÈJÌ will give a concert in the House of Music Hungary, while one of the most exciting figures in contemporary electronica, Christian Löffler, will stop off at Müpa as part of his European tour. Essencia, joined by István “Szalonna” Pál and his band, will appear at the Vigadó Concert Hall, with one of the world’s top cimbalom players, Marcel Comendant, also taking to the stage.

The celebratory concert to mark the 90th birthday of Arvo Pärt will feature the composer’s iconic works performed by Estonian Sinfonietta, the Estonian Percussion Group and the New Franz Liszt Chamber Choir, with Erki Pehk conducting.

The production by the Budapest Dance Theatre entitled Toldi brings János Arany’s hero closer to younger generations thanks to the choreography of Alexandra Sághy and Attila Tókos, who have created a fusion of music, movement and film. The spectacular production entitled TITIZÉ – A Venetian Dream by the world-famous Compagnia Finzi Pasca based in Lugano is packed with acrobatic elements and will be staged on five occasions at the Festival Theatre, while the National Theatre Košice is set to arrive at Müpa Budapest with a musical rarity in the form of the opera written by Liszt at the age of 13 that was at one time thought to have been lost.
